Does the sign need its own supply?

It needs a supply, though not necessarily a new circuit. An electrician usually takes a switched, fused feed from inside the building close to the bracket, often sharing a time switch with your fascia lighting, and certifies the connection to BS 7671.

Does the price of illuminated projecting signs in Merthyr Tydfil include VAT?

No. Our guide range of £695–£2,250 per sign excludes VAT, which is added to the quote. The final figure depends on size, materials, access, removal of existing signage or graphics and the artwork needed, and we confirm it in writing after a survey or once we have checked your files.

Could the consent process affect the timing of my job in Merthyr Tydfil?

It can. Not every job needs an application, but where express consent is required the council's decision typically takes several weeks, and fitting typically waits until it is granted. We check this at the start, so the timetable you receive with your quote allows for consent where it applies, along with the proof approval stage.

Will the sign swing in the wind?

It shouldn't. A lit box is fixed rigidly to its bracket rather than hung on chains, so it stays still in normal winds, with the bracket and fixings sized for its weight and exposure. Traditional hanging signs move; lit ones are fixed solid.

Are lit signs allowed on listed buildings?

Sometimes, but expect extra scrutiny. You'll usually need listed building consent as well as advertisement consent, and councils may favour halo-lit or externally lit designs and traditional brackets on historic frontages. Cable routes and fixings are planned to avoid damaging historic fabric.

Do you cover smaller places near Merthyr Tydfil as well?

Yes. Our coverage is not limited to Merthyr Tydfil itself: nearby towns, industrial estates and business parks across Mid Glamorgan are included too. The process does not change with the postcode. Send photos and approximate sizes, and we will tell you whether a site visit is needed before we can give you a fixed price.

Consent for illuminated signs in Merthyr Tydfil

Adding light usually means adding an application. For an exterior illuminated sign in Wales, expect the council to want an express consent application in most cases; the 1992 Regulations (as amended) set the rules, and the council can confirm its timescales and conditions. Expect questions about how bright the sign is and when it is lit: steady light, a time switch or photocell, and luminance kept within the PLG05 guidance all help. We put together scaled drawings, photomontages and lighting details for you, or lodge the application ourselves if you prefer, and an electrician makes the final connection to BS 7671.
