What makes tray signs more or less expensive?

Size and quantity come first, then the material or film, any lighting, the height of the work and the equipment needed to reach it, and the state of the surface or old sign being replaced. Against that, the guide for a job in Merthyr Tydfil is £1,250–£3,450 per sign + VAT, confirmed after a survey or artwork check.

Could the consent process affect the timing of my job in Merthyr Tydfil?

It can. Not every job needs an application, but where express consent is required the council's decision typically takes several weeks, and fitting typically waits until it is granted. We check this at the start, so the timetable you receive with your quote allows for consent where it applies, along with the proof approval stage.

Do tray signs dent or scratch?

Powder-coated aluminium is tough, but a folded tray can dent if struck by a ladder or vehicle, and deep scratches expose bare metal. Touch-up paint is available in the RAL colour, though repairs are rarely invisible. On low fascias near loading areas, a higher fixing position helps.

Can a tray sign cover an old fascia completely?

Yes, in most cases. A tray can be sized to the full fascia board with folded ends that wrap the corners, hiding the old timber. We still check the board is sound and fix through to solid structure, because hidden rot can loosen fixings over time.

Can I change the lettering later?

That depends on the lettering method. Vinyl can be removed and replaced on site. Raised acrylic letters can be unscrewed and swapped, leaving holes to fill. Routed letters are cut into the face, so a change normally means a new tray face, which is worth knowing before you choose.

Do you need permission for a sign in Merthyr Tydfil?

Putting up a non-illuminated sign in Wales? Some signs on business premises can go up under deemed consent, but the 1992 Advertisement Regulations that apply in Wales set their own conditions, which differ in detail from England's. Conservation areas and listed buildings need more care, and a listed building usually needs listed building consent too, with fixings into mortar joints rather than the stone or brick face generally preferred. Our approach is simple: we confirm with the council what applies to your building before you spend anything, then prepare the drawings or submit the application for you if one is needed.
