Illuminated letters
Illuminated letters & signs
Illuminated signs keep you visible after dark and through grey winter afternoons. Face-lit letters glow through opal acrylic faces, halo-lit letters wash light onto the wall behind, and lightboxes light a whole printed face.
Most illuminated signs need express advertisement consent, and all need a safe, certified electrical connection. LED modules and drivers keep running costs low; a time switch or photocell keeps hours sensible.

Frequently asked questions
How bright should lit letters be?
Bright enough to read clearly without glare. Councils often assess brightness against the Institution of Lighting Professionals' PLG05 guidance, which sets lower limits in darker, residential areas than in town centres. Dimmable drivers let the output be turned down after fitting if needed.
How far off the wall do halo letters sit?
Usually 25–50 mm. Closer gives a tight, bright outline; further gives a softer, wider glow and makes the letters seem to float. Larger letters generally sit further out. The distance is set on the drawings and fine-tuned on the locators during fitting.
How long does a printed face last?
Several years in most positions, though colours fade noticeably faster on a sunny south-facing frontage. Laminates and UV-resistant inks help slow fading, and reds and yellows usually go first. A box that's easy to re-face keeps future rebrands and refreshes affordable.
Does LED neon get hot?
Only slightly warm. The flex runs at 12 or 24 volts, so it's comfortable to touch and suits places within reach, such as a café wall or salon window. The mains side is in the driver, which should stay ventilated and dry.
