Halo-lit letters are solid-faced fabricated letters with LEDs inside that shine backwards onto the wall, so each letter stands in silhouette against a soft outline of light.
Why choose halo-lit letters in the West Midlands?
- Older streets in Birmingham may sit within a conservation area, so we check the council's likely view before design starts.
- Offices on a Birmingham business park can use halo-lit names on pale cladding to guide winter-evening visitors to reception.
- A restaurant or wine bar in Birmingham can light its name after dark without a glowing box, using halo letters.
Guide prices in the West Midlands
The figures in this table are guide prices, from £160 to £420 per letter, and they exclude VAT. They are there to help you plan. A firm price follows the survey or artwork check and is agreed before any work starts.
| Item | Guide, ex VAT | Inc. VAT (20%) |
|---|---|---|
| Halo-lit letter, 300–600 mm | £160 – £420 | £192 – £504 |
| Typical business name (10–14 letters) | £2,800 – £9,800 | £3,360 – £11,760 |
| Final electrical connection by an electrician | £150 – £350 | £180 – £420 |
Guide price: £160–£420 + VAT per halo-lit letter 300–600 mm tall, or £2,800–£9,800 + VAT for a typical 10–14 letter name, plus a guide £150–£350 + VAT for the electrician's final connection. Prices exclude VAT and are confirmed after survey and artwork check.
Consent for illuminated signs in the West Midlands
Illuminated signs are treated more strictly than unlit ones in England. Deemed consent for illumination is limited, and it does not apply at all in conservation areas, National Parks, National Landscapes, the Broads or areas of special control, so most internally lit or halo-lit fascia and projecting signs need express consent from the council. Decisions usually take up to 8 weeks and consent is normally granted for 5 years. Councils commonly assess brightness against the Institution of Lighting Professionals' guidance PLG05, and lighting should be static. An electrician makes the final mains connection to BS 7671. We can prepare the drawings and photos for your application, or submit it for you.
