Do you need permission for a sign in Leicestershire?
Will you need permission? For a non-illuminated sign at your own business address in England, usually not, as long as it stays inside the deemed consent limits: letters no taller than 0.75 m (0.3 m in an area of special control) and nothing above the bottom of a first-floor window. Historic streets need more care. In a conservation area the details matter more, and fixing to a listed building usually needs listed building consent, with fixings into mortar joints rather than brick or stone faces generally preferred. We check with you before anything is ordered, and can prepare drawings and photos for an application, or submit it for you.
Lighting a sign changes the consent picture in England. Under the 2007 Advertisement Regulations, deemed consent for illuminated signs is narrow and is excluded in conservation areas, National Parks, National Landscapes, the Broads and areas of special control; in practice most lit fascia and projecting signs need express consent. Allow up to 8 weeks for a decision, with consent normally running for 5 years. Keep the light static and at sensible levels, with PLG05 the usual reference for brightness, and use a time switch or photocell to control the hours. We check before you commit, can handle the application drawings or the submission, and arrange an electrician for the BS 7671 connection.

Signs in Leicestershire: questions
Can you handle business signs for a business in Leicester?
Yes. Smart Signs covers Leicester and the rest of Leicestershire as part of a UK-wide service. You send photos and rough sizes, we arrange a survey if the job needs one, then you receive a proof to scale and a fixed written price. Nothing is made or fitted until you have approved both.
Does the price of fascia signs in Leicester include VAT?
No. Our guide range of £495–£1,650 per sign excludes VAT, which is added to the quote. The final figure depends on size, materials, access, removal of existing signage or graphics and the artwork needed, and we confirm it in writing after a survey or once we have checked your files.
When could work on illuminated signs go ahead in Leicester?
Fitting is typically scheduled once three things are in place: you have approved the proof, the materials are made or delivered, and any consent the job needs has been granted. For many jobs that is typically a few weeks from approval; illuminated or larger fabricated signs typically take longer, and consent decisions run to their own timetable.
