Do you need to visit before fitting?

Not always. For a single door or window, clear photos taken straight on with a tape measure in shot, plus glass sizes, are often enough for a scaled proof. A visit helps for large frontages, unusual glazing or old lettering to remove.

How long does door lettering take to fit?

Not long on site. A door set with a name and opening hours typically takes under an hour once the glass is clean, and a full window set a few hours, depending on the amount of text and any old lettering to remove.

Who carries out the work on window and door lettering in Elgin?

The work on site is done by installers working under our contract, and anything that needs making is produced by specialist fabricators. You deal with Smart Signs throughout: we take the enquiry, survey, prepare the design and quote, check consent and coordinate the fitting, so there is one point of contact from first message to handover.

Does the price of window and door lettering in Elgin include VAT?

No. Our guide range of £95–£480 per window excludes VAT, which is added to the quote. The final figure depends on size, materials, access, removal of existing signage or graphics and the artwork needed, and we confirm it in writing after a survey or once we have checked your files.

Can people read window lettering at night?

Yes, but it reads differently. Cut vinyl isn't lit, so after dark, with lights on inside, opaque letters can look like dark shapes against the bright interior, whatever their colour. Bold letters stay legible; thin strokes are harder to pick out from the street.

Can you work to an opening date in Elgin?

Tell us the date when you enquire and we will say plainly whether it looks realistic. Timescales typically depend on how soon the proof is approved, how long production takes and whether consent is needed, which can take several weeks on its own. We plan around your date where we can, but we do not promise one we cannot control.

Rules for window and glass graphics in Moray

Scottish planning authorities vary on whether window graphics count as advertisements. Much internal vinyl is outside control or allowed, but a conservation area or listed frontage can restrict larger graphics, and listed building consent may be relevant too. Safety is the other consideration. Scotland's building standards have their own guidance on making glazing visible, while in workplaces the 1992 Workplace Regulations (regulation 14) require marking where necessary. Before the proof for window and door lettering is approved, we confirm the heights for any manifestation and raise any planning point with you.
