Will a hanging sign swing or squeak?

A sign hung from hooks or chains will move in the wind, which is part of the traditional look. Nylon or brass bushes on the hooks reduce squeaking and wear. On an exposed corner, a fixed blade sign mounted rigidly to the bracket won't swing at all.

Can I get a fixed price for projecting and hanging signs in Dudley before committing?

Yes. We start from the guide range, £395 to £1,350 per sign excluding VAT, then measure up or look at your photos and artwork. That gives a fixed written price reflecting the real size, materials, access and any design or consent work. You only commit once you accept that price and approve the proof.

Can a projecting sign be illuminated?

Yes, but it becomes a different product with its own consent position. Lit projecting signs use LED modules inside a box or behind halo letters, connected by an electrician, and most need express consent. A small spotlight lighting a painted sign is an alternative, still checked with the council.

Can you handle projecting and hanging signs for a business in Dudley?

Yes. Smart Signs covers Dudley and the rest of the West Midlands as part of a UK-wide service. You send photos and rough sizes, we arrange a survey if the job needs one, then you receive a proof to scale and a fixed written price. Nothing is made or fitted until you have approved both.

Do I need a licence from the highway authority?

Possibly. A sign projecting over a public pavement may need a licence from the highway authority, which is separate from advertisement consent from the planning department. We can check the requirement for your street and prepare the drawings and photos the application needs.

Could the consent process affect the timing of my job in Dudley?

It can. Not every job needs an application, but where express consent is required the council's decision typically takes several weeks, and fitting typically waits until it is granted. We check this at the start, so the timetable you receive with your quote allows for consent where it applies, along with the proof approval stage.

Projecting and hanging signs in Dudley

A projecting sign is a sign, usually double-sided, fixed at right angles to a building on a wall bracket, so it can be read by people approaching along the street from either direction.

What projecting and hanging signs can do for businesses in Dudley

Visitors browsing Dudley on foot look along a street rather than at each shopfront in turn, which is exactly the view a projecting sign serves.
When Dudley pavements are busy, fascias disappear behind people and parked vans, but a hanging sign above head height stays in view.
If your Dudley street is narrow and fascias are hard to read at an angle, a hanging sign catches shoppers walking towards your door.

Do you need permission for a sign in Dudley?

Will you need permission? For a non-illuminated sign at your own business address in England, usually not, as long as it stays inside the deemed consent limits: letters no taller than 0.75 m (0.3 m in an area of special control) and nothing above the bottom of a first-floor window. Historic streets need more care. In a conservation area the details matter more, and fixing to a listed building usually needs listed building consent, with fixings into mortar joints rather than brick or stone faces generally preferred. We check with you before anything is ordered, and can prepare drawings and photos for an application, or submit it for you.
