Could the consent process affect the timing of my job in Coventry?

It can. Not every job needs an application, but where express consent is required the council's decision typically takes several weeks, and fitting typically waits until it is granted. We check this at the start, so the timetable you receive with your quote allows for consent where it applies, along with the proof approval stage.

Can you handle projecting and hanging signs for a business in Coventry?

Yes. Smart Signs covers Coventry and the rest of the West Midlands as part of a UK-wide service. You send photos and rough sizes, we arrange a survey if the job needs one, then you receive a proof to scale and a fixed written price. Nothing is made or fitted until you have approved both.

Will a hanging sign swing or squeak?

A sign hung from hooks or chains will move in the wind, which is part of the traditional look. Nylon or brass bushes on the hooks reduce squeaking and wear. On an exposed corner, a fixed blade sign mounted rigidly to the bracket won't swing at all.

Can I get a fixed price for projecting and hanging signs in Coventry before committing?

Yes. We start from the guide range, £395 to £1,350 per sign excluding VAT, then measure up or look at your photos and artwork. That gives a fixed written price reflecting the real size, materials, access and any design or consent work. You only commit once you accept that price and approve the proof.

How far can a projecting sign stick out?

It depends on the pavement width and the rules where you are. The sign needs to stay well back from the kerb, clear of high-sided vehicles, and the highway authority may set a maximum projection. We measure the footway at survey and size the bracket to suit.

Who is responsible if a projecting sign falls?

The building owner or occupier is usually responsible for keeping a sign over the highway safe, which is why regular checks matter. Ask your own insurer to confirm your cover includes signs over the footway. A correctly sized bracket in sound masonry, checked after storms, reduces the risk.

Projecting and hanging signs in Coventry

A projecting sign is a sign, usually double-sided, fixed at right angles to a building on a wall bracket, so it can be read by people approaching along the street from either direction.

Good reasons to look at projecting and hanging signs in Coventry

Corner units in Coventry gain twice, because a projecting sign on the corner catches people coming from both streets.
Visitors browsing Coventry on foot look along a street rather than at each shopfront in turn, which is exactly the view a projecting sign serves.
If your Coventry street is narrow and fascias are hard to read at an angle, a hanging sign catches shoppers walking towards your door.

Do you need permission for a sign in Coventry?

In England, a non-illuminated sign on your own business premises usually falls under deemed consent, which means no application is needed provided the sign stays within set limits. The lettering and symbols should be no more than 0.75 m tall (0.3 m in an area of special control), and the top of the sign should sit no higher than the bottom of any first-floor window. Conservation areas and listed buildings need more care: a sign on a listed building usually also needs listed building consent. We check the position for your premises before you commit, and we can prepare the drawings and photos for an application or submit it for you.
