A projecting sign is a sign, usually double-sided, fixed at right angles to a building on a wall bracket, so it can be read by people approaching along the street from either direction.
What you gain from projecting and hanging signs in Skegness
- Visitors browsing Skegness on foot look along a street rather than at each shopfront in turn, which is exactly the view a projecting sign serves.
- If your Skegness street is narrow and fascias are hard to read at an angle, a hanging sign catches shoppers walking towards your door.
- Inside a conservation area, a painted timber-style sign in muted colours is usually the easier design to agree for a Skegness frontage.
What projecting and hanging signs cost in Skegness
Guide prices start from £395 and go up to £1,350 per sign, exclusive of VAT. The breakdown below shows where different sizes and options sit. Nothing is final until we have measured up or checked your artwork and sent a written quote.
| Item | Guide, ex VAT | Inc. VAT (20%) |
|---|---|---|
| Double-sided panel sign with standard bracket | £395 – £850 | £474 – £1,020 |
| Shaped or painted sign with decorative bracket | £650 – £1,350 | £780 – £1,620 |
Size and shape come first, then the bracket: a scroll bracket costs more than flat bar, and larger signs need stronger brackets and wall plates. Painted finishes, access height, the wall type and any drawings for a highway licence or advertisement consent also affect the figure.

Do you need permission for a sign in Skegness?
Will you need permission? For a non-illuminated sign at your own business address in England, usually not, as long as it stays inside the deemed consent limits: letters no taller than 0.75 m (0.3 m in an area of special control) and nothing above the bottom of a first-floor window. Historic streets need more care. In a conservation area the details matter more, and fixing to a listed building usually needs listed building consent, with fixings into mortar joints rather than brick or stone faces generally preferred. We check with you before anything is ordered, and can prepare drawings and photos for an application, or submit it for you.
