Can a projecting sign be illuminated?

Yes, but it becomes a different product with its own consent position. Lit projecting signs use LED modules inside a box or behind halo letters, connected by an electrician, and most need express consent. A small spotlight lighting a painted sign is an alternative, still checked with the council.

How far can a projecting sign stick out?

It depends on the pavement width and the rules where you are. The sign needs to stay well back from the kerb, clear of high-sided vehicles, and the highway authority may set a maximum projection. We measure the footway at survey and size the bracket to suit.

Will a hanging sign swing or squeak?

A sign hung from hooks or chains will move in the wind, which is part of the traditional look. Nylon or brass bushes on the hooks reduce squeaking and wear. On an exposed corner, a fixed blade sign mounted rigidly to the bracket won't swing at all.

Do you cover smaller places near Abergavenny as well?

Yes. Our coverage is not limited to Abergavenny itself: nearby towns, industrial estates and business parks across Gwent are included too. The process does not change with the postcode. Send photos and approximate sizes, and we will tell you whether a site visit is needed before we can give you a fixed price.

What is the price of projecting and hanging signs for a business in Abergavenny?

Guide pricing runs from £395 to £1,350 per sign, plus VAT. The main things that move it are dimensions, the material and finish, illumination where relevant, how high the work is and whether a scaffold or platform is needed. Your written quote, issued after a survey or a check of your artwork, replaces the guide figure.

How soon after I approve the proof can the work on projecting and hanging signs happen?

Typically within a few weeks, depending on what has to be made. Printed and cut graphics are typically produced sooner than fabricated letters, trays or illuminated signs, which need more fabrication time. If the job needs advertisement consent, fitting waits for the council's decision. We confirm an expected date for Abergavenny once materials are ordered.

Projecting and hanging signs in Abergavenny

A projecting sign is a sign, usually double-sided, fixed at right angles to a building on a wall bracket, so it can be read by people approaching along the street from either direction.

The case for projecting and hanging signs in Abergavenny

If your Abergavenny street is narrow and fascias are hard to read at an angle, a hanging sign catches shoppers walking towards your door.
A small Abergavenny shop squeezed between larger neighbours can still be spotted from the end of the street with a well-placed hanging sign.
Inside a conservation area, a painted timber-style sign in muted colours is usually the easier design to agree for an Abergavenny frontage.

Do you need permission for a sign in Abergavenny?

Deemed or express consent? In Wales the answer depends on the 1992 Control of Advertisements Regulations, as amended, rather than the English 2007 version. A plain, unlit sign on your own business frontage is often allowed without applying, within limits on size and position, but the details differ from England's, and conservation areas call for extra care. If the building is listed, expect to need listed building consent too. We check with the council before you commit to projecting and hanging signs, and can prepare the drawings and photographs or handle the submission for you.
