Does frosted film look like etched glass?

Very nearly. From normal viewing distances, a good etch-effect film looks like sandblasted or acid-etched glass; up close, the film edge and a slight sheen can give it away. Unlike etching, it goes onto existing glass and can be removed or changed later.

How much does frosted window film cost?

Plain frosted film has a guide price of £32–£48 per m², and film with a cut-out design £45–£68 per m², supplied and fitted, excluding VAT. Small jobs have a £225 + VAT minimum. Your fixed price is confirmed after a survey and design approval.

Does frosted film go inside or outside?

Usually inside, on the room side, where it's protected from weather and easy to clean. On double-glazed units only the exposed faces can be filmed, so the room side is the norm. Outdoor-grade films exist for glass that can't be reached from inside.

Can you work to an opening date in Northampton?

Tell us the date when you enquire and we will say plainly whether it looks realistic. Timescales typically depend on how soon the proof is approved, how long production takes and whether consent is needed, which can take several weeks on its own. We plan around your date where we can, but we do not promise one we cannot control.

Who carries out the work on frosted window film in Northampton?

The work on site is done by installers working under our contract, and anything that needs making is produced by specialist fabricators. You deal with Smart Signs throughout: we take the enquiry, survey, prepare the design and quote, check consent and coordinate the fitting, so there is one point of contact from first message to handover.

Will the location in Northampton affect the cost of frosted window film?

Location is one factor among several, alongside size, material, access equipment and design time. Our guide range is £32–£68 per m² + VAT; any travel, parking or access costs for your site in Northampton are included in the written quote we confirm after a survey or artwork check, so you can see them before you commit.

Frosted window film is a translucent, etch-effect self-adhesive film that blurs the view through glass while still letting daylight pass, giving the look of sandblasted glass without replacing it.

Rules for window and glass graphics in Northamptonshire

Window graphics are something councils treat in different ways. Graphics applied inside the glass are often outside advertisement control or allowed without an application, but large graphics on a listed shopfront or in a conservation area can be restricted, so we check first. Manifestation is a separate matter of safety rather than advertising: glazing that people could walk into must be made visible. In England, Approved Document K suggests marking two zones, 850–1000 mm and 1400–1600 mm above floor level, and the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, regulation 14, require transparent surfaces to be marked where necessary for safety.
