Do you need permission for a sign in Forth Valley?

Scotland runs its own advertisement rules, set out in the 1984 Control of Advertisements (Scotland) Regulations as amended. An unlit sign on your own premises may not need an application, but that depends on its size, its position and whether the building is listed or sits in a conservation area. If consent is needed, the council receives the application, typically submitted online through eDevelopment.scot. On a listed building, listed building consent usually applies too, and fixings into mortar joints are generally preferred. We check the position with you before anything is ordered, and we can draw up and submit the paperwork if you would like us to.

A lit sign is the clearest case for applying first. Scotland's 1984 Advertisement Regulations treat illuminated signs differently from unlit ones, and express consent is usually needed for halo-lit letters, lightboxes and lit projecting signs. We check with the council before you commit to illuminated signs, then put together scaled drawings, photo mock-ups and lighting details, which you can submit via eDevelopment.scot or we can submit for you. Expect the council to look at brightness (PLG05 is the usual reference) and to prefer steady light, perhaps on a time switch. The mains connection is completed by an electrician to BS 7671.

Signs in Forth Valley: questions

Do you cover smaller places near Stirling as well?

Yes. Our coverage is not limited to Stirling itself: nearby towns, industrial estates and business parks across Forth Valley are included too. The process does not change with the postcode. Send photos and approximate sizes, and we will tell you whether a site visit is needed before we can give you a fixed price.

Is there a guide price for fascia signs in Stirling?

Yes: £495–£1,650 per sign + VAT is our guide range. It is not a fixed quote, because no two jobs are the same size or on the same surface. The area covered, materials, the number of letters or panels, removal of anything old and access all change the figure, which we confirm after seeing the site or artwork.

How long does it take to get illuminated signs in Stirling?

It typically takes a few weeks from first enquiry, with much of that time falling after you approve the proof, while the work is made and scheduled. Graphics and vehicle jobs are typically shorter than fabricated or illuminated signs. If advertisement consent is needed, the council's decision comes first and adds to the overall timescale.
